Phillips Auction House’s new space at 432 Park Avenue sets the stage with its large street corner-facing mezzanine and ground-level displays within the galleries. House of Crowns’ decision to place the artworks in architecturally inspiring spaces that are frequented with adornment supports their aspiration to make sure the artwork has institutional and prestigious placement in order to broaden the legacy and longevity of Black and Brown contemporary art in the 21st century. A range of expression and style are represented through figurative and abstract paintings, sculptures, video, installations, collage and photographic works. Several themes emerge, such as royalty and prestige, heroes and deities, the metaphysical and higher thinking, and the ability to dismantle power structures. We look for guidance from the established and emerging, the main attraction and the overlooked, to enhance the collective consciousness of our mission.” By “passing the crown around,” Ascher and Musa weave together the differing associations that come with the word crown from each artist’s and generation’s perspective. They say, “We find that all look up to each other no matter our public-facing statuses or career trajectories. The concept of House of Crowns came about in conversations and shared goals of Musa and Ascher to facilitate mentorship among artists. The New York presentation of House of Crowns will exhibit a range of work spanning multiple generations of established and emerging artists for its first iteration. Voyager makes some beautiful landscapes, but they can be a little stark, looking more synthetic than those produced by Terragen, a free but far more complicated application (Although you can produce superb snowy peaks, brilliant blue oceans, and haunting desert scenes, the green gradients you can apply to images don’t quite evoke lush prairies or tree-studded hillsides. Once there, you can change views by rotating the compass points or using your keyboard’s arrow keys to move forward, backward, left, or right.
